Goodbye Mother

Goodbye Mother, goodbye.

As I stand in front of your coffin, high black gloss with chrome trim, just as you requested, I say

Goodbye Mother, goodbye.

All of the people are long gone.

The priest recited the Lord’s Prayer, just as you requested.

The flowers, red roses and red carnations tossed into the grave, just as you requested, I say

Goodbye Mother, goodbye.

The day was sunny and bright yet it’s portrait was gray.

I could not cry although I tried.

My mind reflected upon past time….yester time….long ago time.

Goodbye Mother, goodbye.

You hated me so and I never understood why.

You never said I love you and I never understood why.

You never hugged me and I never understood why.

You never kissed me goodnight and I never understood why.

You never encouraged me and I never understood why.

You never praised me and I never understood why.

We could have been.

We could have been.

Goodbye Mother, goodbye.
